A Smile Full of Memories
A Smile Full of Memories
A friend once asked an elderly gentleman a simple question.
“Why did you never marry?”
“You are old now. You were kind. You were graceful. Surely, many women must have come into your life.”
The wise, gentle man did not answer right away.
He smiled-slowly.
Not a happy smile.
A remembering smile.
“Well,” he said softly,
“I think I was always waiting for the perfect girl.”
The friend laughed a little.
“Come on,” he said.
“Not even one woman?”
“Not one who made your heart beat faster?”
“Not one you wanted to grow old with?”
The gentleman’s eyes changed.
Something old woke up inside them.
He stayed quiet for a moment.
Then he said,
“Yes… There was one.”
The friend leaned closer.
“She was everything,” the man continued.
“She was kind.”
“She was smart.”
“She was beautiful.”
“She was full of life.”
“She was the girl I had dreamed of.”
The friend could not hide his surprise.
“Then why?” he asked.
“Why didn’t you marry her?”
The older man smiled again – but this time, the smile faded quickly.
He took a slow breath and said,
“Because she was searching for the perfect man.”
Silence filled the space between them.
The friend did not laugh now.
The older man looked down and whispered,
“Sometimes, two hearts are right… But their expectations are not.”
Someone once said,
“Perfection is not the absence of flaws, but the presence of love.”
The older man nodded gently, as if agreeing with his own past.
“We often lose real love,” he said,
“Because we are busy looking for perfect love.”
And in that quiet moment, the truth stood clear-
Not loud,
Not painful,
Just honest.
“Love does not ask for perfection,” the old man said.
“It only asks to be chosen.”
