Cigars, Complaints, and Comebacks

A lady and a businessman were sitting on a park bench.

He was enjoying his cigar, which she did not like.

She coughed a few times, then waved the air before her face.

“Excuse me,” she said. “But would you mind putting that out, please?”
“Excuse me,” she said. “But would you mind putting that out, please?”

He ignored her hints and continued to relish his cigar.

Finally, her patience boiled over.

“Excuse me,” she said. “But would you mind putting that out, please?”

“Yes, I would,” the businessman said and continued smoking.

Surprised at his stubbornness, she blurted out:

“I find your smoking very offensive.”

The businessman, finally glancing her way with a smirk, said,

“Madam, I find it very satisfying. You’re welcome to move to that other bench over there.”

“If you were a gentleman,” she said pointedly, “you would put it out at my request.”

“And if you were a lady,” the man puffed, “you wouldn’t have asked me to.”

If you were my husband, I would give you poison.”
If you were my husband, I would give you poison.”

“You,” she said coldly, “are a rude and vulgar person.

If you were my husband, I would give you poison.” The man responded to her smilingly…

The businessman paused, looking at her with a gleam in his eye.

He took a slow, deliberate puff, exhaled, and then leaned in closer with a dramatic pause.

“And if you were my wife, I would happily take it.”

With that, he tipped his hat, took another puff, and left her speechless, the punchline hanging like the smoke he had so joyfully savoured.
