Think Like a Lion: The Attitude That Conquers All Challenges
Nature’s Monarch: The Lion Ruling the Wild.
Let us discuss a quality that sets true leaders apart — attitude.
Leaders are distinctive not because they have practical tools, knowledge, or physical prowess but because of their thinking.
Every leader was once a follower, but with the change of attitude, they crossed the limitation and started leading. This was a game-changer for how they viewed themselves and the world.
This shift and this mindset is the spirit of leadership.
I learned something exciting; I found my two favourite living beings: the eagle and the lion.
Eagle — king of the clouds and Lion –king of the jungle. Outside of their realms, these two creatures reign supreme.
It would be odd if we one day sought to become leaders on Earth yet did not bother that these creatures might have an attitude. As I studied the lion, I realised that it represents the spirit of leadership.
That spirit makes a lion higher than the king; it’s not physical but their attitude.
The Lion’s Limitations: Overcoming Physical Disadvantages
Let’s consider an example. When a lion catches sight of an elephant, it does not see the massive giant 50 times its size.
When the lion looks at you, it thinks: lunch. The same goes when the lion sees an elephant in his imagination room. The lion is an elephant eater to the point where it believes it can kill the elephant.
However, the lion does not pay any attention to size or strength. It focuses on what it thinks it can do. And the best part is that it starts by thinking like a lion.
This is the lesson that we need to know. The lion is not stopped by size or strength; its mind never sees the obstacles, only the goal. This also explains us.
You don’t have to be the smartest or strongest. You Need No Special Advantages. You just have to be in the right frame of mind. A leader’s mindset can enable you to have it all.
The Power of Attitude: Why the Lion Reigns
The lion is an incredible creature. It’s not the biggest or the most intelligent, yet all the other animals scatter when it shows up. The hyenas, giraffes, and elephants all run away.
Why? The answer lies in one word: attitude.
What makes the lion different from the other animals is not its physical abilities but its belief in itself. The lion believes it is the king, and because of this belief, it acts like the king.
This is why attitude is so powerful — it comes from your beliefs. Your attitude shapes your reality.
If you want to be a leader, you have to first believe in your ability to lead.
Belief is the Key: The Elephant’s Mindset
Now, let’s look at the other side. The elephant is much larger, stronger, and more intelligent than the lion. Yet, when the elephant sees the lion, it doesn’t consider its size or power.
Instead, it sees itself as lunch. This is how belief works. Despite all of its advantages, the elephant’s belief system tells it that it is the prey, not the predator.
It’s not the elephant’s strength or intelligence that holds it back. It’s its mindset.
This is the critical point: it doesn’t matter how big or powerful you are; you’ll remain small if your mindset is weak.
On the other hand, it doesn’t matter how small you are; if your belief is strong, you will lead.
The Lesson: Leadership is a Product of Belief
Leadership isn’t about physical strength or intellect. It’s about what you believe. Attitude is what separates leaders from followers. Attitude is a product of belief. If you believe you are a leader, you will lead. If you believe you can succeed, you will act in a way that brings success.
One of my favourite quotes that perfectly captures this idea is:
“An army of sheep led by a lion will always defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.”
This shows the power of leadership. It’s not the strength of the followers that determines victory but the strength of the leader’s mindset. The lion leads with courage, determination, and confidence, and because of this, it wins every battle.
Respect and Leadership: Earning the Jungle’s Fear
Now, let me be clear: leadership is not about instilling fear. It’s about earning respect. In the jungle, when we talk about fear, we’re really talking about respect.
The elephant, the giraffe, the hyena — all these animals respect the lion.
They know that despite the lion’s smaller size, it has the attitude of a king. The lion’s attitude commands respect.
What makes the lion so powerful is not fear but the respect it garners because of its self-belief.
This is the true essence of leadership — being respected for your courage, your strength of mind, and your ability to act despite your limitations.
In Conclusion: Cultivate the Lion’s Attitude
In closing, remember this: leadership is not about being the strongest, the smartest, or the most talented.
It’s about believing in yourself and acting on that belief. The lion teaches us that attitude is everything. If you want to become a leader, you must first change the way you think.
Your mind, not your circumstances, will determine your success.
So, don’t focus on your limitations the next time you face a challenge. Instead, focus on what you believe you can achieve.
Like the lion, act the way you think. When you cultivate the right attitude, nothing can stop you. Thank you.
